The moment the world went wow.

He broke the world record and he stopped racing before the finish....

Usain Bolt was a sprinter of phenomenal promise having broken records at all Junior levels, but to do it in this manner at an Olympic games was jaw dropping.

It was an era of exceptionally fast sprinters. Fellow Jamaican Asafa Powell had held the record since 2005 with a time of 9.77.  Bolt lowered that record to 9.72 in the May before the 2008 Olympics.

He looked untouchable during the heat and semifinal. In the final he was a stark contrast to the rest of the field. While the other sprinters were intensely focused and doing their best to psyche out their opponents, Bolt was relaxed and joking around confident that they would only see his heels.

He had the race won clearly by 70 metres and celebrated before crossing the the line smacking his chest and holding his arms wide in an act that had never been seen before in elite sprint racing.

The pundits were gobsmacked - How fast could he have gone? We found out the following Summer at the world championships in Berlin where Bolt won the fastest race of all time, this time racing to the finish line and lowering his record to 9.58 with Tyson Gay and Yohan Blake getting silver and bronze in a time of 9.69.

Bolt also won the 200m in Beijing 2008 beating Michael Johnson's world record with a time of 19.30. He lowered that to 19.19 in 2009.

Bolt retired in 2017 having won 8 Olympic gold medals and 11 world championship golds. He brought enormous personalty to the sport and changed sprinting forever.

The Finished Product

Each Sporting Moment is designed by hand with pen and paper. The image is turned into a digital file for cutting by CNC machine using a 9mm high density fibre board which is black throughout and specially designed for finely detailed cutting work.

I make three sizes of sculpture - 60cm, 75cm and 90cm as measured by the longest side. Some of the sculptures are only available in the larger sizes due to the intricacy of the design.

Packaging

Each sculpture is ergonomically packaged in its own wooden surround to arrive in perfect condition. Opening your package is simple; remove outer card board and use a palette knife to slide between the wood layers and pop open the staples.

Hanging

Hanging your sculpture is very simple. They are designed to rest on two picture nails provided. Hold the sculpture in place and use a pencil to mark where you want to put the nails, near the top towards the left and right.

How do I install the sculpture on my wall?

Installation is simple: Two nails are included in the packaging. Hold the sculpture up to the wall. Mark with a pencil where you want the nails, one on each side towards the top. Hammer in the nails leaving a cm sticking out and hang the sculpture.

Is the packaging environmentally friendly?

The packaging uses the waste from the cutting process to protect the sculpture, and is then sandwiched between two thin mdf boards and wrapped in cardboard. The packaging is plastic free and the mdf boards are made from recycled wood shavings so there is no need to cut down any new trees to make the material. We recommend to keep the packaging as it's the safest way to transport your sculpture should you ever need to move it.
